About the Artist

Drawing inspiration from current social and cultural events, especially those that impact people of color, visual artist Zsavon Butler relies on a range of methods and mediums to make work that, in her words “portrays my innermost thoughts, feelings, and fears motivated by personal life experiences.” The focus of Zsavon’s vision for the Primas Scarf was Misty Copeland, the first African American prima ballerina for the American Ballet Theater in New York.

Zsavon’s work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions, including the 2019 Citywide African American Artist Exhibition (at the University Museum at Texas Southern University and the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston) and the African American Artists Exhibition at the University of Houston, Clear Lake in 2020. Alongside her celebrated visual art oeuvre, Zsavon recently launched Cultured Stems, a ceramic stemware line made by hand, glazed, and fired at 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. Visit to learn more.
